Hello Everyone!
When an event happens in our lives does not upsets us. But it's rather how we think about the event that happened. If something bad happens to us we often always think that we will never feel better anymore. We tend to complain when bad things happen to us because none of us really like to experience bad events in our life.
But someone else in the same situation might say, "Gee, that's too bad,, but I know I can handle it." The same event, two different perspectives. We can't control many of the things that happen to us, but we can control how we react to them.
Learning about this life lesson reminded me of a 1995 movie called "Now and Then" where Samantha talks for the first time to the creepy old man who walks outside at nights. In the graveyard scene the old men tells her that there are things in this world that you cannot control but that is no reason to shut the world away from you just because something bad happened to you and you'll feel that life will not be good anymore. Bad things will happen to us, the only thing we have to do is accept it and move on.
"People don't just get upset. They contribute to their upsetness."
-Albert Ellis
I'd like to go my way, but, really, there's nothing that says they should. I need to remind myself that I have what It takes to improve my mood-and my life.
